Anahata: The Shape of My Heart

Updated: Mar 27

September is National Heart Health Awareness Month!

• National Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month

• National Women’s Health and Fitness Day (Sept. 25)

• World Heart Day (Sept. 29)

Did you know that the stress, anxiety, or poor energy hygiene millions of Americans struggle with can damage their heart health? Our heart health is related to our energy hygiene and poor heart health can leave us feeling tired and drained. Stress is frequently handled as an unwelcome guest but it is simply an inseparable part of life. Stress, by and of itself, isn’t bad. It can affect your heart health depending on how you perceive it and how adequate you think you are to cope with it.

Confronting heart health related stress is a skill and an art. If you want to live a balanced and productive life, you have to learn how to be better stewards of your heart on a daily basis. Exercise, breathing routines and careful diets can all influence positive heart health.

Heart health is an especially personal subject for me as I unexpectedly lost my first born daughter to sudden congestive heart failure and nearly lost my husband to atrial fibrillation this year. His heart condition was largely related to stress. Fortunately, the doctors were able to save my husband through surgery because his condition was caught just in time.

What is Atrial Fibrillation?

Atrial fibrillation (AFib or AF) is the most common type of heart arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) that can interrupt the normal flow of blood. This interruption means the conditions puts you at risk of blood clots and stroke. Between 2.7 and 6.1 million U.S. people have atrial fibrillation. With AFib, the two upper chambers of your heart (atria) are affected. This disrupts blood flow to the ventricles or the lower chambers, and then throughout the rest of your body. If left untreated, AFib can be deadly. AFib can be temporary, it can come and go, or may be permanent. It’s also most common in adults over the age of 65. But with proper medical care, you can live a normal, active life.

Atrial Fibrillation Symptoms

.You might not experience any symptoms if you have AFib. Those who do experience symptoms may notice: heart palpitations (feeling like your heart is skipping a beat, beating too fast or hard, or fluttering) chest pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, weakness, lightheadedness, dizziness, fainting, confusion, intolerance to exercise. These symptoms can come and go based on the severity of your condition.

The Heart Chakra (AKA the Anahata) strongly influences the ability to give and receive love in a healthy way. It is considered the integrative energy center that blends the physical and spiritual within the body. The Heart Chakra also influences our ability to cope with the sadness of betrayals of a loved one or losing a loved one due to breakup, abandonment or death.

The Heart Chakra lies in the center of the chest area. The Heart governs the functioning of the cardiovascular system, including the lungs. On a non-physical level it influences your relationships, life direction, morals, ethics.

As I continue on my personal heart health journey and slowly work my way out of healing my darkest heartache, I use energy work to heal my Heart Chakra. Energy Medicine has taught me the importance of cultivating gratitude, empathy and unconditional love from deep within my own heart to promote resiliency and heart health. Giftedcrystal hearts started appearing in my life in the last year. I have come to see these particular crystals as gentle reminders of the breath cycle, unconditional love, resilience, mystery and strength. I manage my own stress using a multi-dimensional approach as a part of my mind-body-spirit energy hygiene.

Some of my most helpful tools for managing my heart health are Heart Chakra focused Reiki practices, Crystal Energy Healing, Crystal Reiki, Self-Hypnosis, Earthing, Music Therapy, Vibrational Therapy, Creative Movement, Mindfulness Meditation and Crystal Gridding. Other ways of being more attentive to your heart health includes partaking in physical exercises, stopping smoking, quitting alcohol and starting eating a healthy diet. Also, have your heart, blood pressure and cholesterol checked frequently.

I hosted a one-of-a-kind meditation class at a local botanical garden in my hometown of Conyers, Georgia at the end of this month. This class was open to all levels of meditators. We combined crystal meditation with the ancient technique of earthing - connecting to the earth for its many benefits. We also focused on healing the Heart Chakra & self-compassion to help support guests in being a little kinder, gentler and loving to themselves and those around them. This easy to follow practice was designed to leave guests feeling centered and restored.

During the month of September, we focused on restoring the radiant energy of the Heart Chakra. Our activities included a Heart Chakra Guided Meditation, making an ASMR Heart Chakra Crystal Grid & More! I gave away a FREE Heart Chakra Crystal Gift Set to one lucky individual! All new monthly email subscribers were automatically entered in the contest. The winner was announced at the end of our monthly Radiant Heart - Open Heart Circle Feminine Wellness Circle on September 30th.
